Company Overview

In 1981, Botes & Kennedy (Pty) Ltd was established by André Botes and Jan Kennedy, both graduates of the University of Stellenbosch.

We have been operating from our head office in Springbok in the Northern Cape, South Africa’s most scarcely populated province, for the last three and a half decades. As a “remote” construction company, we have become the company of choice for a variety of clients ranging from mining, industry, and parastatals to regional and local authorities. Our geographical footprint has, however, gradually expanded and we now have well-established offices in the Western Cape and Namibia.

Civil engineering projects have also been successfully completed in places as far-flung as Sierra Leone in West Africa and other neighbouring countries, such as Botswana. Our specialised concrete repair services were greatly enhanced in 2007 when African Concrete (Pty) Ltd, a well-established company in Cape Town, became part of our extended family.

All of the above confirms that we are fully equipped to provide a vast range of services in various disciplines.

We are also proud of the fact that we have actively sought out employees and offered shares to persons from different cultural backgrounds since the early 1990s. This goal for diversification reached its zenith in 2005, with the establishment of Botes & Kennedy Manyano (Pty) Ltd (BKM), a 26% black-owned civil engineering and construction company. BKM is now also the controlling operational entity and sole shareholder of all of its subsidiary companies in South Africa, Namibia, and Botswana.

Over the decades our unique communal and family-friendly culture has also been nurtured with care and attention. So much so, that many second and third generations have now joined the BKM-family – making us a family-run business in the truest sense of the word. This culture continues to underpin the way we do business and approach challenges in the business world.

For these reasons we can state with confidence that our team of nearly thirty civil engineers, quantity surveyors, and professionally qualified contract, financial, plant, and human resource managers is fully equipped and prepared to take on the exciting challenges of civil engineering in the twenty first century.
